Kevin Reynolds (Head Coach): Began his coaching career as a lower level coach at University HS in 1989, then to Fullerton HS as a varsity assistant from 1990-1994. Coach was named interim head coach at Servite HS in 1995, early in the season and guided the team to CIF Finals appearance and state tournament in 1995. Now entering his 12 th year at VPHS, the Spartans are now a perennial top 5 team in Orange County . In the twenty years prior to his arrival in 1996, VPHS had one winning season. During his time at VPHS the varsity has won 10 out of the last 11 Century League Championships with a record of 103-7. The Spartans have made two CIF Finals in 1997 and in 2003, as well as qualifying for the state tournament in 1997, 2003 and 2006. Currently Villa Park holds the Orange County CIF record for consecutive home wine (68) and is approaching the 72 necessary to hold the CIF State record. Coach Reynolds has an overall 734-237 record. He has been selected to coach the North squad in the Kiwanis sponsored Orange County All-Star game twice. He was awarded NBA/High School Sportsman of the year twice, as well as the Gatorade Coach of the year two times. Last season Coach Reynolds received the Orange County Register Coach of the Year Award. Under staff guidance, the Villa Park program has produced 18 players in the last 10 years that have played basketball at various levels in college. In addition to running the basketball program, he is an active businessman. Coach is happily married to Malia, the athletic trainer and a science teacher at VPHS. They live in Anaheim with their three dogs.
Jeff Gomez (Varsity Assistant): Coach Gomez returns to VP for his seventh year. A tireless work ethic, plus great dedication to the program makes him invaluable. His coaching career began at St. Anthony’s in Long Beach , as a Varsity Assistant for seven years. He moved his family to Orange and began a successful seven year run as assistant for Richard Bossenmeyer at Orange High School . Coach moved to Valencia High for two years before joining the VP staff. Coach has two children Jeffrey and
Agee Ward (varsity Assistant): Coach Ward is returning for his third year as a Varsity Assistant with the Men’s program. He was previously the VP Women’s JV coach. Coach is a graduate of Washington HS ( Los Angeles ). He played basketball at Cal State Fullerton, followed by eight years playing professionally overseas. Coach brings great experience to the Spartans, sharing his expertise both on the court and the sidelines. Coach is married with two kids.
Tom Clark (Varsity Assistant): Coached 10 years of youth basketball. Last year was the 8 th grade All-Net National Champions. Coach spent many years developing the Villa Park NJB Program as both a coach and board member. Previous coaching experience at the high school level includes coaching the Troy HS girl’s varsity team. This is his second year on staff as a varsity assistant at VP. Coach Clark is married to Barbara and his children Tommy and Erika attend and play basketball at VPHS. Coach owns and operates Standard Printed Products in orange and he enjoys fishing, poker, basketball and spending time with his family.
Nick Waltz (Sophomore Head Coach): Coach Waltz was raised in Anaheim and played 4 years of high school basketball at Canyon High School . He graduated in 2002, coached the freshmen boys from 2000-2002. This is his first year as the head basketball coach for the Villa Park Sophomore Team.
John Gottbrech (Freshmen Head Coach): Coach Gottbrech is in his twenty-seventh year of coaching high school basketball. John was the Varsity Boys Coach at Chino High School from 1995 to 1999 and was the Varsity Girls Coach at Chino Hills High School (2001-2005) where he compiled a 48-35 record. John was 18-9 in his first year as a Varsity Boys Coach. Coach Gottbrecht also worked under Mike Montgomery in the Stanford Basketball Camp program. John graduated from UC Riverside in 1978 and has his Master's Degree (1986) in Education from the University of Southern California . John is married to Michelle and has five children: Justin, Zachary, Coty, Ian, and Mary-Kathryn and two beautiful grandchildren Alec and Ellie! Go Spartans!
